400 വർഷങ്ങൾക്കു മുൻപ്പ് സൌദ്യ അറെബ്യയിൽ നിന്നും മംഗളൂർ ( mangalore ) എത്തിയ സയ്യിദ് മുഹമ്മദ് ശരീഫുൽ മദനി എന്ന പണ്ഡിതൻ അവിടെ ഉള്ളാൾ എന്നാ കുഞ്ഞു ഗ്രാമത്തിലെ ഒരു മസ്ജിതിൽ അതിവസിക്കുകയും തുടർന്ന് തന്റെ പുണ്ണ്യ പ്രവർത്തികൾ കൊണ്ടും അത്ഭുത സിദ്ധികൾ കൊണ്ടും അവിടെ ജനങ്ങൾക്കിടയിൽ പ്രശസ്തനാവുകയും ചെയ്തു.
സയ്യിദ് മുഹമ്മദ് ശരീഫുൽ മദനിയുടെ മരണശേഷം അദ്ദേഹം അതിവസിച്ചിരുന്ന ആ കുഞ്ഞു മസ്ജിതിൽ തന്നെ അദ്ധേഹത്തിന്റെ മൃതദേഹം ഖബറടക്കി . മരണ ശേഷവും ജനഹൃധയങ്ങളിൽ അദ്ദേഹം ജീവിച്ചു ,ആരാധനയോടെ ,പ്രാർത്ഥനയോടെ അദ്ധേഹത്തിന്റെ ഖബർ അവർ കാത്തു സൂക്ഷിച്ചു. തങ്ങളുടെ വേദനകൾക്ക് ആശ്വാസമാകുവാൻ ആ ഖബർ സ്ഥാനത്തിനു വരെ കഴിയുന്നു എന്നതു കൊണ്ട് തന്നെയാകണം ഇപ്പോളും ആ തിരു സന്നിധിയിലേക്ക് ലോകത്തിന്റെ പല കോണുകളിൽ നിന്നും ഭക്തർ ഒഴികിയെത്തുന്നതു ..
Legend has it that about 400 years ago, Sayyid Muhammed Shareeful Madani came to Mangalore from Saudi Arabia, reaching the shores of Ullal by floating on a piece of cloth. He camped in a small mosque at Melangadi in Ullal village where he led asimple life showering his love on the poor.
He became famous among the villagers because of his kindness and his treatment of the sick through prayers. The Seyyid Madani Darga observes Uroos once in five years which attracts pilgrims from all over the country and it has earned the name of Ajmer Darga of the south.
